McCarthy injury worry for Everton

Everton’s Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy could be set for another spell on the sidelines after he was injured in the Toffees’ 2-0 win at Wolfburg last night.

The Merseysiders were deserved winners with goals from Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas to secured top spot in Group H for Roberto Martinez’s men with a game to spare.

But the injury to McCarthy soured a fine performance, as he was forced off in the first half. Martinez said: “He has had a long-standing problem with his hamstring.
