Injury ends Lenihan loan

Former Cork City defender Brian Lenihan has had to cut short his loan spell at Blackpool and return to Hull City after suffering a patella tendon knee injury.

Injury ends Lenihan loan

Lenihan, 20, who joined Hull this summer on a three-year deal from City, was injured in Blackpool’s 1-1 draw against Bolton last weekend. That was the 20-year-old’s second start for the club having made his debut in the 3-1 defeat at Leeds United.

A statement from Blackpool said: “The Seasiders would like to thank Brian for his efforts in the last two games and wish him all the very best for the future.”

Lenihan must now recover but could go back on loan when the transfer window reopens in January.

Meanwhile, Ireland international centre half Sean St Ledger and striker Noel Hunt will to join Championship high-flyers Ipswich Town on a short-term deal until the beginning of January.

St Ledger was released by Leicester City at the end of last season, while Hunt arrives on a loan deal from Leeds.

Their arrival will swell the strong Irish contingent in Mick McCarthy’s squad that already includes Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick, Stephen Hunt, Jay Tabb and Connor Sammon.
