Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Karim Bellarabi is the only uncapped player in Germany’s squad for their upcoming Euro qualifiers against Ireland and Poland.

Bellarabi earns Germany call-up

The 24-year-old has been called into a 20-man squad for the games in Warsaw against Poland on October 11 and Ireland’s visit to Gesenkirchen on October 14.

Manager Joachim Low has also recalled Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels and Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Max Kruse but will be without some big names in the form of injured midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Marcos Reus and striker Mario Gomez.

“Karim Bellarabi has earned this chance after some excellent performances for his club,” said Low. “He is unbelievably strong in the one-on-ones and is an excellent alternative in our attack.”

Meanwhile, LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena says Robbie Keane — who has scored 17 goals for the club this season — ought to be the clear favourite to win the MLS Most Valuable Player award.

“Anyone with a brain in the game, it’s hard to say that Robbie wouldn’t be your first choice,” he said.
