Martinez: No McCarthy rift

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has dismissed talk of a rift with Ireland international James McCarthy in a contract dispute.

Martinez: No McCarthy rift

McCarthy has impressed for the Toffees this season, but reports surfaced of a disagreement with the midfielder over improved contract terms.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s Capital One Cup with Swansea, Martinez said: “James already has a very long-term contract. I don’t know where the talk is coming from.

“He arrived at the club 13 months ago, his contract is long-term and the ambition of everyone is to see him at Everton for many, many years on top of that long-term contract he has, so it is not an issue at all.”

Everton full-back Bryan Oviedo and forward Arouna Kone, could both return from injury to tonight’s trip to Liberty Stadium.
