Germany end Irish hopes
Sue Ronan’s girls were exposed from a 28th-minute counterattack finished by Melanie Behringer. Anja Mittag doubled the lead with a volley.
Doran Gorman and Louise Quinn went close for Ireland, but the Germans completed a perfect qualification record and Ireland finish third in Group One. “It’s been a good campaign,” said Ronan. “We are disappointed we didn’t get second place because that was our objective but we have ended with a record number of points, six clean-sheets and a group of players with the potential to have a real go at trying to qualify for Euro 2017.”
