Martinez ready to take Toffees to new level

Back in April of 2011, just as Roberto Martinez’s Wigan Athletic side were beginning another of those late-season runs, he suddenly spoke with an element of regret. Arsene Wenger may well have been able to empathise.

“It’s a real shame that we haven’t got another 30 games to go because I think we would see the real measure of this squad,” Martinez told the Irish Examiner at the time. “I feel we are ready now to play the way we want and get results.”
