No offer for Agger, insists Rodgers
The defender sat out the win over Borussia Dortmund yesterday with a knee problem, and has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Anfield in recent weeks.
“I saw some stories on Agger, but we haven’t had any enquiries,” Rodgers said. “Daniel is still getting some work done on his knee. He’s been unfortunate since the tour of America, but we haven’t had anything, no offers.”
Rodgers also revealed Lazar Markovic could be fit for his side’s Premier League opener against Southampton this weekend.
“Hopefully, Lazar will be available. If not for Sunday, certainly for the next week.”
Meanwhile, the manager singled out new signing Dejan Lovren as having the “perfect” game following their 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Anfield yesterday.
Goals from Daniel Sturridge, Lovren, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson led them to a deserved win. Brazilian Philippe Coutinho put in a sensational performance but Rodgers was more enthused with Lovren’s display.
“I’ve been really pleased with all of the signings because they have all come in as part of our strategy and the types of profile of players that we want,” he said.
“Of the two boys that played today, Dejan was perfect — he’s what we’ve been looking for since Jamie Carragher left. He’s a very dominant centre-half.”
