The winger is currently the centre of attention in Brazil after receiving no punishment from FIFA having admitted to diving during the Netherlands recent victory over Mexico.

Carragher says that Brendan Rogers made a move to sign the Dutch player last year, during which time he was struggling to get a game at current club Bayern Munich.

He believes that the move would have been perfect for both sides of the deal saying "He wasn't a regular for Bayern then but he scored the winner at Wembley against Borussia Dortmund and has since gone from strength to strength.

The Dutch player has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, keeping him in the Allianze arena until 2017.

However, Louis Van Gaal has set his sights on Robben during the summer transfer window, as he takes over as Manchester United manager.

Robben has scored three goals for his country during the World Cup with the Netherlands set to face Costa Rica in their quarter-final on Saturday.
