City’s chance to regain top spot

Cork City have the chance to continue their resurgence, and possibly regain top spot in the SSE Airtricity Premier League, when they host basement side Athlone Town tonight at Turner’s Cross (7.45pm).

Three league wins on the spin has thrust John Caulfield’s side back up to second spot and within two points of leaders Dundalk, who travel to play Bohemians.

Cork, without Blly Dennehy who is serving a one-match suspension for last week’s dismissal at Bray Wanderers, are on a roll but mindful of facing a side fighting for their lives.

Dundalk travel to Dalymount Park missing only their two long-term injured absentees, Stephen O’Donnell and Keith Ward, while Bohemians will give captain Dave Mulcahy a late fitness test on a hamstring complaint.

Elsewhere, Limerick trek to Drogheda United buoyed by their 2-0 victory over St Patrick’s Athletic last week.

St Pat’s, now six points off the summit following defeat at Thomond Park last week, welcome a Derry City discovering a degree of stability under the reign of new boss Peter Hutton.
