Andy Reid’s last goal is to get Nottingham Forest back in big time
Hanging up his boots is a long way off for Reid, 31, who has just signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at the City Ground. But he would love to eventually end his career with Forest established back in the top flight.
They are again pushing hard for promotion and Reid is hopeful they can achieve their goal.
“If I can finish my career playing with Forest in the Premier League, I would be very happy.
“I feel I am playing the best football in my career and I feel as though I am contributing as much as I have done during my career.
“If I can continue doing that, then great. I still think I have a lot of years left playing football. I want to move into coaching and managing. But I feel I have a lot of years to offer, playing.”
Reid, who is in his second spell with Forest, added: “The icing on the cake would be to take this team back into the Premier League.
“To play for this club in the Premier League has always been a dream of mine. If I could achieve that, it would be the proudest moment in my career.
“So that is what I am striving for personally. That is what the manager is striving for, along with the players.
“With regard to the contract, I sat down with the manager and with the owners and they have been keen to find out what my motivations are and I was keen to find out what theirs are.
“We had some really, really good, positive discussions about where they see the club going and I want to be part of that.
“It is important to feel settled, to feel wanted and to have faith shown in you. I think my performances warrant it [a new contract]. I have been doing quite well.
“It is good to be rewarded for those things. We will look to the future now, we will try to build, to play my part in taking this club into the Premier League. That is the ultimate aim.
“I am probably more determined than ever to help this club to get to the Premier League. That is the ultimate aim. Everything else is just a side issue. The ultimate aim is to get into the top flight.”
