Having fallen out with coach Valery Karpin at Spartak Moscow, it’s widely expected that the winger – whose contract in Russia is up at the end of the season — will get a move back to Britain in January.

Said the Ireland manager yesterday: “Is he good enough to play in the Premier League? Absolutely. The lad’s got great ability. He can play the wrong ball at times, be wasteful and be exasperating. But he can go past people and not many are doing that.”
