Cleverley must kick on, says Scholes
Questions are often raised as to what Cleverley offers the United side, with the likes of Michael Carrick and Phil Jones preferred among many United fans.
Scholes thinks it’s time the 24-year-old took the next step in furthering his career.
Speaking at the premiere of The Class of ’92, the former England star said: “Tom has been there a few years and has done okay. But it’s time he kicked on. He plays a lot of games and is a quality player, emphasised when he gets in the England squad. Now it’s time he went to the next level.”
Following Scholes’s retirement, the position of centre-midfield has been a hot topic with many of the opinion that there is a deficiency in the heart of the United team. Moyes signed Marouane Fellaini from Everton in the summer but the Belgian has so far failed to impress, sparking rumours the club could be in the market for a more dynamic midfielder when the January transfer window opens.
“If the manager feels like he needs to go out and buy someone in January then I’m sure that’s what he’ll do,” said Scholes.
“Adnan (Januzaj) has broken through this year and has got great talent. If he works hard he’ll have a great career in the game.”
