Holders Avondale given scare
Carrigaline, who are struggling in the First Division, put in a great display in a nine-goal thriller and were unlucky to bow out of the competition.
Avondale’s goals came from Mark O’Sullivan (2), Ray Lally, Ken Murphy and Dave Warren, while Robbie O’Mahony (2), Danny O’Connell and John Donovan scored for the gallant losers.
Stephen Duffy (2) and Ben Ryan got the goals as Second Division Glasheen caused the upset of the round by ousting Premier Division St Mary’s 3-2.
In the other second round games, Richie Holland scored four and Mick Bradfield got one as Bandon hammered Ballinhassig 5-0. Kevin O’Connell grabbed a brace and Owen Sexton also scored as Mayfield beat Fermoy 3-1, while Rockmount needed penalties to dispose of Youghal United on Friday after the sides finished 2-2 after extra-time.
Meanwhile, College Corinthians and Midleton will meet in the Keane Cup final after both sides came through their semi-finals. Evan Browne got both Corinthians’ goals as they overcame Ballincollig 2-1 after extra-time, while Midleton also needed extra-time before seeing off Everton 3-2 at Knockgriffin.
There was one game played in the Beamish Stout Munster Senior League Premier Division where Leeds defeated Douglas Hall 1-0 at Leeds Park.
In the First Division, leaders Castleview defeated Blarney United 2-1 in Blarney, while CIT and Mallow drew 3-3.
