Pardew: Toon aren’t favourites

The Magpies became the first side to deny Anzhi Makhachkala a European victory on home soil this season as they fought out a 0-0 draw on the artificial pitch at a wintry Luzhniki Stadium.

He said: “I wouldn’t say we are favourites because they have got good counter-attacking abilities, but it’s going to be a very different game at St James’ Park. We didn’t really have to fight the crowd today; that probably helped us settle.”

ANZHI: Gabulov, Yeschenko (Logashov 90), Carlos, Ewerton, Jucilei, Shatov (Gonzalez), Zhirkov, Ahmedov, Diarra, Willian (Traore 22), Eto'o.

NEWCASTLE: Elliot, Simpson, Yanga-M'Biwa, Perch, Haidara, Cabaye (Tiote 84), Sissoko, Anita (S Taylor 75), Ben Arfa (Sh Ameobi 64), Marveaux, Obertan.
