Republic of Ireland international Richard Dunne looks certain to miss the World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria in March after undergoing surgery in America.

Dunne, 33, went under the knife on Thursday — the third operation he has had to try and cure the groin and hip injury that he suffered at the European championships.

Despite the fact that Dunne was injured on international duty, Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has insisted that the club will not be seeking any compensation from the FAI.
