Darron Gibson was wrong to make himself unavailable for international duty after the European Championship, according to Glenn Whelan.

The Stoke City midfielder has been Gibson’s roommate in recent times and describes his Everton counterpart as a good friend but he believes the Derry native should have responded to his summer disappointment very differently.

“I think he felt he should have had a better look-in over the Euros and that’s showing his disappointment, but I think he should show it in a different way. Come in and play and train as well as you can, do it that way.
