Wexford end on a high
Despite having Caolain O’Gorman sent-off for a second yellow card after just 26 minutes, and falling a goal behind, Wexford still managed to dominate the opening half.
Athlone took the lead after seven minutes when Barry O’Mahoney saw his speculative lob deceive ’keeper Graham.
Wexford Youths were level after 22 minutes through a Furlong, with O’Gorman going for an early shower four minutes later. It was 10-man Youths who controlled the remainder of the half as Joey Mulcahy had them ahead with a superb effort, while two minutes before the break Furlong beat Jennings, making it 3-1 at the break.
Athlone pulled a goal back in the 66th minute through Shane Clarke, while 10 minutes later they had a Sean Skelly penalty saved by keeper Doyle. The visitors had sub Joe Woods sent-off and in additional time sub Eric Molloy secured the points.
