Foley tipped to make Ireland comeback

Kevin Foley has been tipped to return to action for the Republic of Ireland.

The Wolves right-back was devastated when he was left out of the Euro 2012 squad by Giovanni Trapattoni.

Foley was axed just before the tournament started and replaced by Paul McShane. There have been suggestions Foley will not play for the national side again while Trapattoni is in charge.

However, Wolves manager Stale Solbakken thinks that what happened with Ireland last summer will “sort itself out”.

Solbakken said: “Kevin is a very sensible man who probably knows best himself. But I think that what has happened with Ireland will sort itself out.

“I don’t fully know what happened, but I think any player that is good enough to play for their national team should play for the national team if they feel that is right.”

Foley made his first appearance of the season against Peterborough United last weekend after recovering from a knee injury.

Solbakken was delighted with the performance and added: “I think he will play the same way in any game whether it is the reserves or Barcelona.

“When he came back for pre-season he had the injury and wasn’t fit.

“I think he made a stupid decision by trying to show me how good a footballer he was.

“I think it was payback time then as his body said, ‘no I am not ready’, so it is good to have him back now.”
