French floor Irish to book finals spot

The Republic of Ireland senior women’s team were beaten 4-0 by France in Guingamp in their penultimate European Championship Group 4 qualifying game on Saturday night.

France led 3-0 at half time following goals from Élodie Thomis and Eugénie Le Sommer (two). Substitute Julie Morel completed the rout as the French secured passage to next summer’s finals.

Ireland’s final game in the group is on Wednesday away to an Israeli side who have yet to win a game in the campaign.

Scotland made sure of second place in Group 4 by coming from behind to beat Wales 2-1 in Llanelli.
