‘Unique’ McCarthy can be Irish star

Republic of Ireland international midfielder James McCarthy can become a key man for his country, according to his manager at Wigan Roberto Martinez.

McCarthy has had something of a fractured start to his Ireland career.

Injury problems have restricted his appearances to date and he had to pull out of the squad for the European Championships due to a family illness.
