Stephen Ward, pictured, has indicated that the Irish players have already put Twittergate behind them — though the James McClean controversy has only reinforced the wisdom for the Irish full-back of giving the social networking medium a wide berth.

“I don’t tweet, but there’s certain things you can’t stop people from saying,” said Ward after Ireland squad training in London yesterday.

“It’s one of those things. Nobody is holding it against him. He apologised to the lads. The lads know he wants to play in every game. It was probably just frustration on his part.
