Geraghty derby joy

SD Galway picked up just their second win of the season in the Galway derby at Eamonn Deasy Park last night — both of which have now arrived against neighbours Mervue United.

Brian Gaffney and Brian Geraghty goals gave SD Galway the points as they close to within four points of their Galway rivals at the foot of the First Division table.

Two minutes from half time the home side broke the deadlock when Gaffney fired low past Conor Gleeson after Jakub Tomanica did all the hard work in a lightning break from SD Galway.

However, Mervue pulled level in the 56th minute when Damien O’Rourke poked home from close range.

But 10 minutes later Geraghty restored SD Galway’s lead with a good strike after a sweet cross from Mixie Harty. The sending off of Nicky Curran moments later resulted in a white-knuckle ride for the closing stages, but Devon held on for the win.
