Limerick continue charge

Limerick FC capped a great day off the field with a super display on it with victory over Mervue United at Fahy’s Field last night.

Limerick continue charge

Pat Scully’s men will need to keep improving if they are to trouble Manchester City when they arrive at Thomond Park next month, but their latest victory has done their promotion bid no harm.

First-half goals from Sean Brosnan and Shane Tracy set Limerick on the road to their 13th win of the season as Jeffrey Judge completed the job in the second half.

Three minutes in, former Mervue boy Rory Gaffney came within inches of the opener, but Conor Gleeson did well to touch his effort on to the post.

Brosnan struck Limerick’s first 20 minutes later, finishing well after he connected with Gaffney’s cross from the right.

Soon after Tracy stroked home a penalty after Mike Elwood felled Joe Gamble, to give the Blues a 2-0 lead at the break.

And just after the hour mark, substitute Jeffrey Judge sealed the win for Limerick when he headed home Tracy’s free-kick, as the Shannonsiders’ charge to the top flight continues.
