UCD stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division after a first-half goal from Stephen McLaughlin was enough to enable Derry to record only their sixth league win of the season at a damp Belfield last night.

The Students should really have taken the lead on the half hour when striker Chris Lyons found the unmarked Tyrone McNelis on the right. But his low cross was fired wide by the advancing Lyons.

College were to regret that miss with Derry opening their account on 32 minutes when McLaughlin ran on to a clever through ball from Owen Morrison before firing past goalkeeper John Kelly.
