Ireland’s women’s team are out of the European Championship chase with two qualifiers left after losing to Scotland last night at Turner’s Cross.

Defeat to Wales last Saturday meant there was no margin of error for Ireland in the hunt for a play-off spot but they were second best for much of the contest.

Ireland were caught napping from a corner for the breakthrough goal on 25 minutes. Kim Little’s corner was allowed float all the way to Jennifer Beattie, whose header was saved by Emma Byrne but defender Rachel Corsie swept the rebound home.
