Heat rises as Trap waits on Wilson

Returning to the subject of Foley’s angry condemnation, which preceded unconfirmed media reports that the player had also said privately that he would not play for Trapattoni again, the manager remarked: “There is the moment of disappointment.

Heat rises as Trap waits on Wilson

Kevin is a wonderful guy. In the moment of disappointment, you can say everything. The first reaction is understandable. One of the rules of life is never say never.”

Would he expect Foley to come back if asked? “At this moment I don’t know. Maybe in August (he will say) yes or no.”

And when he was asked to clarify that he had now definitely turned to Marc Wilson, Trappatoni grew heated again: “What do you think? We sleep or no sleep? I sleep until start of Euros? After 30 years of career? We are not on holidays.”

So that was a yes, then.

“I don’t want to speak about this anymore,” the manager added. “That is finished.”

On a day when all 23 players trained and Darren O’Dea reported that he was over his thigh problem, Trapattoni was relieved to have both Shay Given and John O’Shea back in full training.

“I have no doubts about O’Shea but only after the Hungary match can we decide if he is 100% fit,” said Trapattoni. “Shay has no problem and I think he is already good. For Hungary we will start with the team that probably starts the Euros. This is the last test.”
