QPR midfielder Joey Barton has been banned for 12 matches after his behaviour against Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season “tarnished the image of football”.

The FA last night confirmed an independent regulatory commission found Barton guilty of two counts of violent conduct.

The FA also announced Barton received an automatic four-game suspension, with the additional eight matches a consequence of the manner of his dismissal. He was also fined £75,000.
