Limerick turn on the style

Limerick FC showed why they are many people’s favourites to top the First Division when they ruthlessly picked SD Galway apart at Eamonn Deacy Park last night.

Limerick turn on the style

Despite the home side performing admirably and taking the lead through Luke McConnell in the 15th minute, Limerick’s class came to the fore as Stephen Bradley and James McGrath strikes before the half-hour mark put them in the ascendancy.

Enda Curran levelled matters two minutes before the break with a great header from Mike Tierney’s cross to send the sides in a 2-2 at half-time.

But after the restart it was all Limerick as Denis Behan gave them the lead, before McGrath hit his second in the 71st minute. Pat Purcell then inflicted the killer blow.

SD GALWAY: Burke; Horgan, Fadden, Browne, Bradshaw (Conlon, 79); Harty (Molloy, 73), Tierney (Whelan, 79), Greaney, Enubele, McConnell; Curran.

LIMERICK FC: Ryan; Kelly, Guthrie, Purcell, Tracy; O’Brien, McGrath (McGann, 86), Bradley, Gaffney, O’Leary; Behan.
