Maguire continues hot streak

Waterford United threw a spanner in Limerick FC’s promotion drive with a well deserved victory from last night’s Munster derby at Jackman Park.

United defender Craig Burns had an outstanding game as the visitors restricted the hosts to half-chances all night en route to their second win of the season over the Shannonsiders.

Limerick’s Corey Tracey flashed a close-range header wide from a Rory Gaffney cross just before the break with United caught ball-watching.

Limerick paid the price for that miss as minutes later Seanie Maguire netted his fifth goal of the season for United in all competitions.

Gary Dempsey provided the pass that split the Lims’ defence and Maguire, who scored for Ireland Schools versus England in Brighton on Thursday night, did the rest with a low, angled drive from six yards.

Limerick upped the pressure late on but the visitors held on without too many scares.
