Elmes lifts the gloom

A goal in each half helped third-placed Wexford Youths past a disappointing SD Galway, still seeking their first victory, at Ferrycarrig Park last night.

Both sides struggled during a lacklustre opening half and 30 minutes had elapsed when Wexford Youths eventually broke the deadlock with what was their first direct shot on goal.

Having built an attack down the right, a high Dean Broaders cross was only partially cleared, giving Shane Nolan the chance to fire in a low shot from 14 yards that found the bottom right-hand corner of the Galway net.
