Duffy: I won’t make Trap’s squad

Shane Duffy has said he doesn’t expect to make the Irish squad for the European Championship finals.

Duffy: I won’t make Trap’s squad

The Everton defender made the remark on Twitter. Asked: “Do you think you will make it into Trap’s Euro 2012 squad?” he answered succinctly “No”. This week it was revealed Giovanni Trapattoni will not ban his players from using Twitter during the European Championships, though they will be required to abide by certain restrictions, including not revealing anything of team matters and respecting colleagues’ privacy.

Duffy, who has made a complete recovery from a life-threatening injury sustained while training with the Irish squad two years ago, was called up for the March friendly against the Czech Republic in place of the injured Richard Dunne.

However, despite the manager having indicated he would see some action in the game, Duffy was never called from the bench.

But with Trapattoni due to name his Euros squad on May 7, the defender won’t have long to wait to see if his hunch about missing out again is right or wrong.
