Furlong fires Wexford second

A long ball out of defence was missed by the Athlone defence and Furlong took one exquisite touch to control the ball before slipping a cool finish past Pat Jennings.

Athlone’s best chance saw Noel McGee’s turn and strike from 25 yards rattle the crossbar in the 86th minute. The rebound should have been put away by Kevin Williamson but he sent it wide as Wexford got a fourth clean sheet in six league starts.
