Ireland’s women yesterday completed their preparations for next month’s UEFA qualifier against Scotland by lifting the Algarve Cup.

The Hungarians had beaten Sue Ronan’s Irish in the opening game at the friendly tournament a week earlier but goals by Áine O’Gorman and Julie-Ann Russell won it for Ireland this time.

Hungary made it a nervous last hour for the Irish by reducing the deficit with a long-range shot on the hour.
