Richard Dunne was last night named the 3 FAI Senior International Player of the Year, in recognition of his contribution to Ireland’s European Championship qualifying campaign which peaked with his one-man Iron Curtain performance in the scoreless draw with Russia in Moscow.

Recovering from surgery to a broken collarbone, the Aston Villa defender was unable to attend last night’s awards ceremony, but, in a recorded interview, assured RTÉ viewers that, despite his arm being in a sling, he aims to be fit for the fray come summer.
