Inter Milan crushed as Roma go on goal rush

Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi has committed his future to the Giallorossi by signing a five-year contract extension.

The 28-year-old Italy international, whose previous deal was due to expire this summer, had been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly keen to acquire his services.

However, yesterday’s announcement — which comes after months of negotiations between the player and the American-owned club — looks set to end such speculation.

On a good day for Roma, Fabio Borini scored twice as they secured an emphatic Serie A triumph over Inter at the Stadio Olimpico.

Juan opened the scoring in the 13th minute and Borini doubled the hosts’ lead before half-time.

Borini added a third shortly after the restart and substitute Bojan Krkic capped a great afternoon for Luis Enrique’s side by notching their fourth a minute from time to ensure a miserable return to the capital for Inter’s former Roma coach, Claudio Ranieri.

Juventus were frustrated in front of their own fans at the Juventus Stadium by a Siena side who were good value for a 0-0 draw in Piedmont.

Juve did all of the attacking in a one-sided game, but they failed to create any major chances as the Tuscans defended resolutely.

Despite being held, Juve remain top of Serie A, with rivals AC Milan also failing to win, as they were held to the same scoreline against Napoli at the San Siro.

Robinho missed the best chances of the game for Milan, who ended the game with 10 men after Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off midway through the second half.

Napoli failed to make the most of their one-man advantage for the final 25 minutes and were left still waiting for their first win in five games.

Palermo continued their fine fun of league form with a narrow 2-1 victory over 10-man Atalanta at La Favorita.

The visitors’ afternoon got off to a bad start when they had goalkeeper Andrea Consigli sent off in the 27th minute for a foul on Fabrizio Miccoli, who picked himself up to convert the resulting penalty.

Igor Budan doubled the hosts’ advantage four minutes into the second half and, although Maximiliano Moralez pulled a goal back seven minutes later, the Sicilian outfit held on to make it 10 points from the last 12 on offer.

Fiorentina won back-to-back league games for the first time this season as they prevented Udinese from closing the gap at the top of the table with a 3-2 win.

Despite Juve and Milan slipping up, luckless Udinese lost ground on them as a Stevan Jovetic penalty double proved decisive.

Jovetic cancelled out Antonio Di Natale’s 14th-minute opener just before the break before scoring again from the spot late on after Mattia Cassani fired the hosts ahead on 56 minutes.

Gabriel Torje netted a late consolation for Udinese, who remain third but four points adrift of Juve at the top.

In another thrilling clash, Genoa risked throwing away a three-goal lead before seeing off Lazio 3-2 on a frozen pitch at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The Biancoceleste struggled to even make it to Genoa as the snow in Rome created their first challenge, first in reaching the airport and then to eventually take off several hours late. When they arrived at the stadium they found half of the pitch frozen and lost Hernanes to injury in the warm-up.

Luciano’s own goal handed Parma a 2-1 win at Chievo. Luciano diverted Sebastian Giovinco’s shot past goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino to settle the match. Giovinco had put the visitors in front a minute after half-time, but Cyril Thereau levelled four minutes later.

Strugglers Lecce and Bologna drew a blank, as did Novara and Cagliari.
