Except, that is, for one man. Once again, John Terry was the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons. And once again, the Chelsea captain thrust out his chest, forgot all about his impending court case and proved himself to be the game’s dominant player.

The centre-back has made a habit of this, of course. The litany of allegations that follow in his wake are well-known, but while some may scorn, it is difficult not to be impressed by the manner in which Terry can shrug off the most serious of tribulations.
