Jones facing injury layoff, admits Ferguson

ALEX FERGUSON expects to be without Phil Jones for several weeks as the defender undergoes a scan on his injured ankle today.

Jones facing injury layoff, admits Ferguson

“It's not good news for us. I think Jones will be out for a few weeks — it's ankle ligaments,” said the United boss.

Ferguson is already without Rio Ferdinand, Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Michael Owen, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Vidic.

Meanwhile goalscoring hero Danny Welbeck believes his partnership with Wayne Rooney is going to get even better.

Welbeck was on the scoresheet as he grabbed the winner at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.

He told MUTV: “To get a starting berth up top with Wazza in behind me, we’re forming a great partnership and I’m just looking forward to carrying that on.

“We worked really hard. A few people were cramping up towards the end — I was one of the victims — but we worked really hard and it was a great team performance overall.”

The 20-year-old revealed the United squad had watched Manchester City’s dramatic victory over Spurs while in the Emirates dressing rooms.

“It was on in the changing room but we couldn’t let it affect us — we just played our normal game,” he said.
