Rooney ready for another goal spurt

ALEX FERGUSON is backing Wayne Rooney to go on another of his goal spurts after the United striker scored twice in the 4-1 win over Wolves.

Rooney, who had his Euro 2012 ban reduced to two games on Thursday last, ended a run of eight games without a goal with a clinically-taken double past Wayne Hennessey to ensure he has never gone nine matches without hitting the net since joining the Reds.

In 2009/2010, his most productive campaign for goals, Rooney scored in a run of four consecutive games twice and, a year earlier, he netted in seven successive fixtures for club and country.
