Long calls on FA to punish Hutton

REPUBLIC OF Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni could find out today if Shane Long will be out of next month’s Euro 2012 play-off against Estonia.

The West Brom player suffered a potentially serious injury after a reckless first-half lunge from Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton on Saturday. Given that Kevin Doyle is suspended for the first leg while Robbie Keane remains an injury concern, Trapattoni will be sweating.

“I’ll know more after the scan on Monday, the first 24 hours are crucial so I’ll be doing all I can to keep it wrapped up and hope that that makes a difference. I don’t want to miss that Estonia game,” Long tole RTÉ. “It could have been a lot worse. I was lucky my foot came out of the ground, if I was standing on it I’m sure he would have snapped my leg in two.
