DERRY CITY confirmed third spot in the Premier Division following an entertaining 1-1 draw against St Patrick’s Athletic last night.

There was a refreshing openness to early proceedings as both sides looked to attack at every opportunity and it was the visitors who nearly broke the deadlock in the seventh minute.

Some lax defending by the hosts allowed Stephen McLaughlin a clear sight of goal but his well-struck shot was parried by reserve keeper Chris Bennion into the path of Derry captain Kevin Deery, who was denied in turn by an acrobatic Bennion.
