Fernandes to dig deep again for Warnock
The Malaysian business tycoon’s takeover of the club in late August provided the financial clout for Warnock to sign six new players in the last week of trading.
The majority of those featured in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Blackburn, where Christopher Samba’s towering header denied the Rs a first home victory after Heidar Helguson’s cross-shot broke the deadlock.
Fernandes was at Loftus Road for the match and, while frustrated by the result, believes the signs are promising.
“It was a bit disappointing but this is all part of building,” he said. “We have had a bit of bad luck at home.
“We outplayed Newcastle and, if you look at the league table, they are fourth and we played them off the park.
“We played well against Villa and I thought there could have been a penalty there that should have gone our way, but that’s football.
“But to be 10th at this stage of the season is something to be proud of ahead of three tough games.”
After the likes of Joey Barton, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Anton Ferdinand arrived at Loftus Road, Fernandes held talks with Warnock last Thursday about the next batch of potential signings.
The Rs boss indicated that as many as five new players could arrive in the next transfer window and Fernandes has promised to back the manager.
“I don’t know about five players but it depends what comes along,” he said. “We have some interesting options.
“But Helguson played well today and it is good to have [Jamie] Mackie back from injury so hopefully we can keep everyone fit, which is one of our problems. We’ll be looking at new players.”
Blackburn manager Steve Kean’s position has come under increasing scrutiny of late and was quick to thank the fans for their support.
“I thought the travelling fans [on Saturday] were very good and hopefully we can go and add points to that against Tottenham next time out.”
