Tardelli confident minnow humiliation won’t be repeated

WHEN Marco Tardelli was asked if he was aware that tomorrow night’s game against Andorra will take place on the fifth anniversary of Ireland ‘s 5-2 humiliation in Cyprus, he backs away in mock horror.

But given that the war had now been officially mentioned, Ireland’s assistant manager recovered himself to declare that he doesn’t expect history to repeat itself in the Pyrenees.

“In football anything is possible,” he said, “but we are confident about this game. Yes, it’s a dangerous match but I sleep at night.”
