Arsenal boss plays it cool on Van Persie deal

ARSENE WENGER says there is no need to make an “immediate issue” of Robin van Persie’s contract situation.

The 28-year-old has is understood to have sought assurances from Wenger about the club’s future after the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.

Wenger said: “You have to respect that he has nearly two years to go, so let’s not make an immediate issue of something like that — two years in football is a very, very long time. On our side we are quite clear, so that is no problem — I do not say there is no problem because it does not depend only on us, but we are clear with our intention.”
