Meyler makes a winning return

DAVID MEYLER took a significant step on his road to recovery by playing his first 45 minutes since January in Sunderland’s reserves’ 1-0 win over Gateshead last night.

The Irish midfielder came off at half time as planned having impressed with an energetic display in his first appearance in eight months.

Meyler later tweeted: “Thanks to everyone for all the texts, messages, tweets everything its really appreciated. I couldn't have made the comeback without all this support or the love and inspiration of my family. Thank You all.’’
