Cascarino dropped over ‘holocaust’ gaffe

TONY CASCARINO has been dropped to the bench for Transfer D-Day by Sky Sports News.

The former Irish international turned pundit was due to contribute to the station’s transfer deadline coverage tomorrow but revealed yesterday he has now been relieved of that duty following the controversy stirred up by his use in studio of the word ‘holocaust’ during the Manchester United-Arsenal match on Sunday.

Discussing defender Armand Traore’s performance, Cascarino had said: “Poor Traore at right-back is having a holocaust because he’s finding himself against Nani, who’s literally running him from everywhere.”

Cascarino and Sky immediately apologised for the remarks and speaking in Dublin yesterday he was still apologetic.

“I apologised if I offended anyone as that was not the intention,” he said.

“I got a little caught up with the game. An inappropriate comment or word was used that I regretted and hopefully an apology will be enough. I didn’t sleep well last night.”
