For Pat’s, the disappointment of crashing out of the Europa League to Karpaty Lviv was only deepened by the row over bonus payments and compensation which, at one point, seemed not only to threaten the fixture but the club’s very future.

Fortunately cooler heads prevailed but there was still no joy to be had on the pitch in Tallaght as Pat’s were outplayed by a much superior side. Adding injury to insult was the sight of playmaker Stephen Bradley hobbling out of the game in the first half.
