Bond: Even Modric has his price
Chelsea are weighing up whether to make a third bid for Spurs playmaker Modric, having already seen two offers rejected in recent weeks.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has insisted the 25-year-old is not for sale “at any price” but the club’s supporters will understandably be concerned that a mega-money bid may prove too good to turn down.
And Bond admitted yesterday he too is worried about such a scenario.
“You don’t want to lose your best players and he certainly is one of our best players and we desperately don’t want to lose him,” he said.
“But I think everybody has got a price.
“But, at the moment, the chairman’s insistent he won’t let him go and we definitely don’t want to lose him anyway.”
Chelsea reportedly offered £22 million and £27m for Modric in their previous bids.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp branded the Blues’ opening gambit as “ridiculous” and also gave short shrift to the second.
Bond last night sought to clarify his earlier comments on Modric, saying in a statement: “For the purpose of clarification and in case my comments this morning inadvertently misled anyone, the club’s position on Luka Modric is quite clear — we have no intention of selling him.”
