Porto take the Aviva sticks
Upping sticks, taking stick, moving the goalposts — football folk who like to emphasise the pun in punditry will be delighted to learn that FC Porto, winners of this year’s UEFA Europa League final at the Aviva Stadium, have decided to commemorate their win in a unique way.
The club have purchased the goalposts from the Lansdowne Road end of the ground where their striker, Falcao, headed home the 44th minute goal which proved enough to beat fellow Portuguese side Braga in the final..
The goalposts will feature in a new museum being developed by Porto and arrangements are currently being made to have the posts shipped out from Ireland to Portugal.
You might even say that they’re in the post.
