Croly exits Hoops setup after fallout
“It is with great regret that I have resigned from my position at Shamrock Rovers FC,’’ Croly said in a statement. “I would like to thank the board and fans for all the help and support I have received during my time at the club.
“I’m grateful to have worked at Shamrock Rovers, coaching fantastic players and receiving fantastic support. Over the past few months, my football relationship with the manager has changed somewhat, which has ultimately led to this decision.
“I’d like to wish Michael, the players, and everyone at the club the best of luck for the future.’’
O’Neill said: “I would like to thank Trevor for his contribution to the club over the past two-and-a-half years. I have enjoyed working with him during that time and wish him the very best in his future career in football.’’
Meanwhile Dundalk striker Mark Quigley says he will refuse any belated call-up to the League of Ireland’s Dublin Super Cup squad.
The former Bohs man appeared to make a concerted point to the watching Richardson at Bray Wanderers on Tuesday, scoring a hat-trick and setting up another goal in a 5-1 win just a day after being left out of the 35-man panel for the tournament with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Celtic.
But even if such a performance were to sway Richardson — who left before the end of the game — Quigley insists he wouldn’t budge.
“I won’t go and play for the squad,” he said. “If I’m not good enough to get in the 35 now, I don’t see why I’m going to go if people drop out. There’s not a chance I’ll ever play.
“I’m not pushed. I’ll go and have a nice holiday in Portugal with the family. It doesn’t bother me. The people closest to me were more disappointed that me. I was getting texts and phone calls asking why I wasn’t in the squad.
“I didn’t expect to be picked. I don’t tend to get picked for stuff like that.
“I’ve nothing to prove to anybody. The players I’ve played with over my career, and managers that I’ve played for, know what I can do. He [Richardson] obviously doesn’t rate me as a player. I’m not fussed.”
