Cook scratches head as Cup throws up Pike
Holders Sligo Rovers will be confident of advancing to the next round after being drawn at home to Pike Rovers.
Sligo boss Paul Cook was pleased with a home draw but admitted to knowing little about the Limerick junior club.
“To be drawn at home first is important,’’ Cook said, before admitting, “Pike Rovers is a new name to me. We’ll have to do a bit of research on them. We’ll have to do our homework and act in the utmost professional manner.’’
Last season’s beaten finalists Shamrock Rovers begin their challenge to go one better with a home game against Athlone Town.
The draw also threw up some intriguing derbies as Cork City were drawn away to Midleton, while St Patrick’s Athletic will have a short trip to Crumlin for their tie.
